What full lace construction gives you
Every strand on a full lace cap is individually knotted to lace that covers the whole head. That single fact unlocks the styling range:
- Part anywhere: middle, side, diagonal, zigzag.
- High ponytails and buns, because the nape and sides are lace too.
- Multi-directional styling: you can brush the hair back, forward or sideways without exposing a weft line.
On a lace front, the moment you pull the hair back you reveal the machine-wefted cap. On full lace, you do not.
Why it costs so much
Hand-tying an entire cap is days of skilled labor per unit. A full lace version of a style that costs $150 as a lace front commonly runs $300 to $500 in human hair, and premium vendors charge more. The labor is also why quality control matters more here: uneven knotting or weak knots across a full cap shows up as shedding everywhere, not just at the hairline.
Who should buy one
Full lace earns its price for three buyer types:
- Updo wearers. If ponytails, buns or half-up styles are part of your rotation, no other construction delivers them believably.
- Long-wear users. People wearing daily for weeks at a time often prefer full lace's breathability and the ability to restyle without reinstalling.
- Experienced installers. The cap is delicate; adhesive application, washing and detangling all need more care than wefted caps.
If none of those describe you, a lace front or closure wig gives 90% of the look for materially less money and less fragility.
Care realities buyers underestimate
- Shedding is the failure mode. Knots across the whole cap mean more knots that can loosen. Gentle washing, no rough towel drying, and sealant on the knots extend the unit's life.
- Storage matters. A full lace cap stretched on a wig stand holds its shape; crumpled in a drawer it develops creases in the lace.
- Repairs are possible but not cheap. A skilled stylist can re-knot small bald patches, which is worth knowing before you write off a $400 unit.
Buying notes
Because the price is high, the verified review record of the seller matters more, not less. Check recent photo reviews for shedding complaints specifically, and prefer sellers whose return policy covers uninstalled units. Our human hair seller reviews and How to Care for Human Hair Wigs cover both sides of the purchase.
